About Us

Born from our adventures in the wild, our gear has been designed to meet specific challenges we faced while out on vehicle-based exploration trips.

We're not new to this world. We're backed by 10 years of off-road parts design experience, and we're a probationary member of the International 4 Wheel Drive Trainers Association (I4WDTA). Our staff has been there, done that.

Tarheel Expedition Engineering is the hardware we make ourselves: mounts, storage, and trail solutions we built because we couldn't find them done the way we needed. We also carry a small set of partner brands we've used personally on trips. Anything on this site has to stand up to that.

We design and ship our own products from North Carolina.

4wd Training and Consultation

We are a probationary member of the International Four Wheel Drive Trainer's Association (I4WDTA) and have been instructing off road driving for six years. Besides teaching off road driving and recovery our work includes off road demonstration drivers for vehicle manufacturers and in field evaluation of off road parts and components.
